Maison NAUDET and marees.org join forces to produce the Connected Tide Clock
Maison NAUDET, a French maker of measuring instruments since 1860, and marees.org are joining forces exclusively to produce the Horloge des Marées Connectée (the Connected Tide Clock): a classically built instrument, brass case, dial and a single hand, that follows the actual tide times of the harbour you choose.
A clock runs at a fixed rate. The tide does not.
A conventional tide clock completes one turn of the dial in 12 hours and 25 minutes, the mean interval between two high waters. The mechanism is accurate, but it tracks an average. The real tide shifts from day to day under the combined pull of the Moon, the Sun and the shape of the coastline: the error builds up, and the hand has to be reset from time to time. Every clockmaker knows this, and NAUDET has long explained it to its customers.
The Connected Tide Clock removes the need for constant resetting. The module queries the marees.org prediction service, which continuously computes the exact hand position for the owner’s harbour, using the mathematical models of CNES, the French space agency, built on forty years of satellite altimetry. The instrument resynchronises by itself over Wi-Fi. You read the tide the way you read the time: at a glance, with no screen and no app to open.
Our partnership
- Maison NAUDET handles the clockmaking: case, dial, hand, manufacture and finishing. Workshop craftsmanship handed down since 1860, and the distribution network. Exclusive industrial partner for the launch.
- marees.org supplies the connected module and the service behind it: electronic and software design, tide prediction, updates and long-term operation. Inventor of the Horloge des Marées Connectée.
About Maison NAUDET
Founded in 1860, Maison NAUDET designs, manufactures, restores and repairs measuring instruments in France: barometers, thermometers, hygrometers and tide clocks. Its workshop keeps alive rare clockmaking and metalworking skills, working on small production runs as well as one-off and monumental pieces. maison.naudet.com
About marees.org
marees.org is the inventor of the Horloge des Marées Connectée (Connected Tide Clock) and runs the service behind it: it continuously computes the tide state to display for any harbour, and feeds the connected instruments that subscribe to it. The connected module is offered to clockmakers and marine instrument manufacturers as an OEM solution; get in touch.
